May 2020: "Rewriting is where the game is won or lost; rewriting is the essence of writing" - William Zinsser
The health of and the ability to have a laugh with my loved ones was something I continued not to take for granted during the COVID-19 lockdown.
Jan bought me a new journal to write in. On the front was written, "Believe... I believe that the most beautiful thing is worth waiting for - and the sweetest fruit needs patience." I took this as a sign to give my brain the time it needed to complete the project of creating my first eBook alone (no mean feat)! It was hard to keep believing that my life counts and that others will want to read about it.
Along with my focused determination to finish it and the support of Jan, came help from the universe and on 13th May 2020 (the eighth anniversary of my Polish violinist friend, Peter's death), I published on Kindle Direct Publishing, Diaries of a Multi-instrumentalist Volume One: Busking Acoustically on the London Underground. It'd been a very long time in the making, so it felt great to have another book forever out there that is genuine, truthful and from the heart.
It reached number one in the free Kindle Books Best Sellers in the 'Biographies of Composers and Musicians' category for a number of days.
I care about the quality of my work, which I'd hoped had to pay off at some stage: My friend Garry finished reading Diaries of a Multi-instrumentalist Volume One, found it "fascinating" and "enjoyed every word." I was pleased because these qualities had been my exact intentions for the book while creating it.
If I expect failure regarding my creative efforts to gain a wider readership and earn more money, maybe that's what I'll get? I'm certain though, that in my efforts to market this book I don't want to give myself to the screen again: Gardening is what makes me feel most happy and connected right now, and is what nourishes me...
